Photoshop Tutorial
Pattern Preview
How to use the Pattern Preview tool in Adobe Photoshop.
Adobe introduced a pattern preview tool in Adobe Photoshop in 2021. Whilst not quite as good as the pattern tool in Illustrator, it does a great job of allowing you to create a well-balanced pattern. It only allows you to create a standard block pattern, so don’t expect to be able to do complex patterns with half-drop repeats, etc.
As you can see in the images below, the ability to see the pattern repeated whilst you’re creating it does help you create a well-composed pattern. It helps give an overall picture of what it looks like zoomed out.

I’d love to see what you’ve created using the Pattern Preview tool in Adobe Photoshop, so if you do share on Social Media don’t forget to tag me so I can see your creations.
As always, leave a comment below or send me a message if you want a tutorial on a specific topic and I’ll be sure to add it to my list.
Happy pattern-making!
