How much money I make from my art
Once upon a time…
…a friend told me that I’d never earn a living drawing pictures. This was at a time in my career when I was deciding to leave my ‘well-paying’ work as a software engineer and pursue art.
That was 10 years ago!
I was completely burnt out in the I.T. industry and I wanted to pursue something that filled me with joy rather than dread.
My friends’ words fuelled my fire and desire to succeed and I often wonder if I still would have created this career without his comments.
So today, I’m putting myself out there and being completely transparent in the amount of money I earn and how I earn it. It’s certainly not megabucks, but it’s enough and most importantly, I enjoy getting up every morning to do what I do. I really want to inspire and help others to do the same and I believe revealing something that most like to keep hidden, will help someone in some way.
You see, I still get people asking how I do it.
There really isn’t any magic formula. There is no right or wrong way. This is just the way I do it and every week, month, and year it evolves and changes.
Drawing pictures and creating art as a career doesn’t just involve creating gorgeous art. There is a huge business aspect to it. Spending time analysing what is working and what isn’t is so important. What was working for me 5 years ago, is not what is working for me in 2022. And what is working now, may not be working in a couple of years time. I’ve had to adapt and change to stay in a good financial position.
I mean, we all have to pay the bills right?
Diversifying the areas in which you earn money is something I feel is very important for financial security. So if one happens to disappear all of a sudden, which they do, you have other income streams to depend on.
