How to create a box mockup using the Vanishing Point Filter
in Adobe Photoshop
Why Create Mockups?
Mockups are a wonderful way of presenting and promoting your designs on various products. Realistic mockups can also help potential clients get an idea of how your design will look on one of their products.
I use mockups to display my work on social media and on my website. They can also be used to spruce up your portfolio. I also find that by mocking up a design on a product allows me to see any gaps or problems with my design.
Where to find Mockups
There are many online sources for purchasing mockups, my favourites being Creative Market** and Design Cuts**. These mockups are mostly created in Photoshop and are typically easy to use. You just need to drop your pattern or design in and you have an instant mockup.
Why you should create your own Mockups?
One disadvantage of using bought mockups is some have restrictions on how you can use them, you may need to attribute the creator. I also find that several other artists will be using the same mockup. I use a mix of bought and “Mel-Made” mockups and even sell a couple of my own. I really like creating unique mockup designs that I know I won’t see again on my Instagram feed.
How to create a basic mockup in Photoshop
Over the years, I have discovered and tinkered with many methods for doing this in Photoshop and next week I’ll show you a much more complex method that produces an amazing realist mockup, but today I’m showing you a very simple and quick method using the Vanishing Point Filter in Photoshop. This is fabulous for tricky and complex shapes and is so easy to use.
As always, I would love to hear your thoughts. Or if you have a burning question, please do let me know as I’m always happy to answer and help in any way I can.
Happy creating!
