Artists, Illustrators & Surface Pattern Designers:
Enrich your Creativity with these tools
…I believe you’ll love.
Do you feel like sometimes you’re going around in circles and not able to focus on something that is going to build your creative practice?
I know the feeling; it happens to me too, especially when I don’t have a deadline for something.
So for me, it’s all about checklists and having tools in place that can help me to focus more on art and less on the business and admin side of my business.
So I want to share with you 8 of my favourite tools that I use, both in my creative practice and my business practice.

Favourite Management Tool - monday.com
monday.com** is essentially a cloud-based project management tool. I use it to manage my licenses, royalties, contacts, projects and files. It integrates nicely with Dropbox and Google Drive, has great automation and collaboration features.
Favourite Podcast - Windowsill Chats
Windowsill Chats with Margo Tantau is my most favourite podcast. I look forward to it each week and just can’t get enough of Margo’s voice!! Her podcast for artists and creatives who are curious about what it’s like to live, work & walk a creative path
Favourite Drawing Tool - Procreate
Procreate has essentially changed the way illustrate and design patterns. It has a one-off cheap price for lifetime updates. Its versatility is astounding. It’s used by pros and those just starting out and is well worth the investment if you’re serious about a career in illustration or digital art.
Favourite Social Media Platform - Instagram
Instagram is by far my most favourite social media platform for showing my work. It’s been a great source of income from attracting clients for licensing and promoting my Spoonflower products. Yes, it’s going through some rough times lately, but I’m going to stick with it for now, and I’m just not ready to let go of it.
Favourite Book - Picture Book Makers
Picture Book Makers** is one of my favourite books of the year 2022, this book delves into the world of 12 picturebook makers who generously share their experiences, challenges, sketches, illustrations and more.
Favourite Facebook Group - Advice for Artists
Run by the wonderful Art Licensing Agent Jennifer Nelson, this wonderful group/community is all about the business of art. It’s a great support group for artists who work as surface designers and book & editorial illustrators.
Favourite Art Supply - Holbein Acryla Gouache
I love Holbein Acryla Gouache** for its opacity properties. It allows me to paint traditionally and produce art very similar to my digital art. It can also be watered down to create a more transparent watercolour texture.
Favourite Procreate Brushes - Lisa Glanz
When I can’t be bothered to make my own brushes in Procreate, I seek out Lisa Glanz’s brushes for Procreate**. A lot of love goes into these brushes resulting in superior traditional art textured brushes and canvases.
